Red Deer Provincial Building 2nd & 5th Floor Densification
Work under this contract involved demolition to and densification of the whole fifth floor and portions of the second floor of the Red Deer Provincial Building in a phased approach. The building remained occupied throughout the duration of construction, so considerations were made throughout the project to avoid interrupting building occupants. When completed, tenants were offered modern office spaces featuring demountable partitions, sound-dampening panels, and exceptional finishes and fixtures.
Midway through construction, Emcee was awarded a security enhancement project within the building, this project was valued a little under 1/3 of our original contract value and included the reconstruction of the security kiosk in the lobby, and camera and card access installations throughout the building.

Valley Zoo Resurfacing
This project involved removing and replacing 10,500 m2 of asphalt sidewalks and the associated subbase, 200 new concrete pin curbs, various concrete pads, various parking signs and signposts, wooden enclosure viewing benches, and a heavy-duty large animal pathway constructed of special-order milled lumber.

Two other key components of this project were public safety and environmental considerations. Temporary fencing/barriers were used to ensure all trees/shrubs and nesting birds were not disturbed. This also acted as protective barrier for the public during construction.

With the amount of extra work and design changes added to the contract, there were significant schedule delays and contract value increases. Although the client obtained the necessary budget to complete the changes that they wanted, the change order approval process was long and lengthy which posed challenges for us to keep the work progressing onsite at times. Despite these challenges, our relationship with the client remained respectful and healthy throughout the duration of construction.
